TARRAGONA
Regular buses run from Salou to Tarragona which is well worth a visit with its wealth of ancient buildings and monuments including Roman aqueducts, amphitheatres and monasteries.
SALOU
Next to Vilaseca y La Pineda is is Salou the most important town of the Costa Dorada.
GOLF ON THE COSTA DORADA
Golfers may want to leave the rest of the family at Port Aventura while they enjoy a day out at one of the excellent courses in the area. There are 18-hole courses in Reus and Mont-roig del Camp. The nine-hole Club de Costa Dorada near Tarragona has a swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, a children's playground and restaurant.
Iglesia de San Esteban
Work on the church of St Steven began on 10 April 1588 and the church was inaugurated in the final years of the 16th century. The bell tower, which probably also served as a watchtower, was built without foundations above the altar of the Mare de Déu del Roser.
La Torre dels Carboners
The Torre dels Carboners is located to the north of La Pineda and has recently been restored. It is located near the Torre d'en Dolça, exactly one kilometre to the southeast. It is easy to find from the Chapel of La Pineda as it is close by and can be seen from the church entrance.
Portal de San Antonio
The Portal of St Anthony is the only gateway regularly mentioned in ancient documents and still today it retains its original appearance of a gate through the second fortified perimeter of Vila-seca.
Castillo de Conde Sicart
The Olzina Tower of this castle, which between 1162 and 1168, served as the defensive tower of the manor of Vila-seca de los Olzina, can trace its origins back to the Romans.
La Ermita de La Pineda
The worship of St Mary in the town is concentrated in the Chapel of La Pineda, located approximately 1200 metres north of La Pineda. Today it is a chapel, but in earlier times it was the parish church of La Pineda. The church was built before 1245.
Monument Marca de Aigua (La Pineda)
Build on a small island in front of hotel Donaire Park you can find this monument in memory of Carlos Barral. From this point you can enjoy the nice view over the beaches of La Pineda.
Torre de la Abadia
Since there was no castle or fortified manor house in Vila-Seca,the town had to reinforce the exterior walls and build a dozen defensive towers at strategic points around the mediaeval enclave, which made up a double walled perimeter.
La Sequia Major (La Pineda)
The Sèquia Major (main irrigation channel) of La Pineda has been a protected nature reserve under the Catalan Plan for Areas of Natural Interest since 1993.
